WTF type of name is Reality Leigh Winner? Is this a troll?
A contractor for the National Security Agency has been arrested for leaking a top secret Russia document. The arrest came only a short time after the document was published by The Intercept.
NBC:
Barely an hour after a news organization published an article about a Top Secret National Security Agency document on Russian hacking, the Justice Department announced charges against a 25-year-old government contractor who a senior federal official says was the leaker of the document.
The May 5, 2017 intelligence document published by The Intercept, an online news organization, describes new details about Russian efforts to hack voting systems in the U.S a week prior to the 2016 presidential election. While the document doesn’t say the hacking changed any votes, it “raises the possibility that Russian hacking may have breached at least some elements of the voting system, with disconcertingly uncertain results.”
Even as the document was ricocheting around Washington, the Justice Department announced that a criminal complaint was filed in the Southern District of Georgia charging Reality Leigh Winner, 25, a federal contractor, with removing classified material from a government facility and mailing it to a news outlet.
From what we know so far, it appears as if she is a hardcore Communist. She’s also a big Bernie Sanders fan who has called Donald Trump a “piece of shit.” Most importantly though, she has got a really fucked up name!
The 25-year-old woman who stole “Top Secret” documents from the National Security Agency and leaked them to The Intercept appears to be a supporter of Bernie Sanders and other progressive icons, such as Bill Maher and Michael Moore.
Reality Leigh Winner’s apparent social media footprint also shows that she is a supporter of other liberal causes, including the Women’s March and the Islamic Society of North America, the Muslim civil rights group.
She also recently referred to President Trump as a “piece of shit” because of his position on the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) protests.
The document itself is an assessment claiming that Russian intelligence attempted to hack a voting software company and sent phishing e-mails to local election officials. It does not contain the raw data that was used to form the analysis.
We already know that the U.S. intelligence community has the ability to stage false flag cyber attacks. This was revealed in the recent Wikileaks Vault 7 document dump. It details how the intelligence community can manufacture evidence to frame another state actor for hacks. Even though we can’t say for certain, it is extremely likely that this leaked NSA assessment is based off of data that was created to specifically frame the Russians.
The U.S. intelligence community needs the Russians as an enemy to justify their existence. That’s why there has been a massive effort to undermine Donald Trump’s efforts to improve relations with Russia. It is absolutely in their interest to manufacture bogus data and assessments to paint the Russians as evildoers.
Even if we assume that the assessment is based on real data, the document doesn’t reveal anything new. It is common practice for intelligence services around the world to engage in this type of activity.
The document offers no evidence proving that these alleged cyber attacks were ordered by the Kremlin. Nor does it prove that the election results were impacted by Russian activities.
It will be interesting to find out more about the leaker though. On the surface, she seems like quite the weirdo. She’s apparently former Airforce and into weightlifting based on her limited social media activity.
Clearly there is something wrong with our systems if top secret information is trusted to nutty females like this!
It is also worth mentioning that the surname “Winner” can be a Jewish surname. If she does turn out to be Jewish that would explain quite a bit about her activities.
Either way, the leak itself isn’t all that interesting but it will be used to fan the flames of Trump-Russia conspiracy theories.
