Do you remember a time when a Moslem driving a vehicle into a crowd of white civilians made top headlines across Europe?
Because I definitely remember a time when a Moslem driving a vehicle into a crowd of white civilians made top headlines across Europe.
That’s no longer the case, of course.
Terrorist attacks against white people in Western European countries are now the norm. Older people have become accustomed to them. Younger people are growing up with them. Events that once led to shock, outrage and demands of action now lead to numbness, indifference and acceptance of inaction.
That’s probably something to remember the next time a well-meaning person tells you that things need to get worse before they get better.
A man has been arrested after driving his car into a crowd of people outside a bar in southern France while shouting Allahu Akbar, witnesses and local officials said.
The 32-year-old suspect, believed to be a local, sped towards a crowd of about 50 outside the bar at around 1am Friday local time, witnesses said.
However, his white Peugeot ran into barriers set up for the town’s annual grape-harvesting festival featuring bull-fighting which attracts thousands of people.
Two people standing behind the barriers received slight injuries to their legs.
After the crash the man tried to flee but was dragged to the ground by onlookers and ‘roughed up’ before police arrived.
He was in a state of ‘mental confusion’ during his arrest and has been hospitalised, public prosecutor Eric Maurel said.
…
A source close to the investigation said the man was not known to police for suspected radicalisation.
The man is being held on suspicion of attempted murder.
A police spokesman declined to comment on the man’s motives, but said the investigation was being handled by regular police rather than anti-terror police.
So, a Moslem committing the most stereotypical act of terrorism possible no longer qualifies as terror-related?
Then again… maybe it doesn’t. I guess it’s possible – no, probable – that France has reached the point where a terrorist attack in which no one is killed is merely viewed as a regular crime, and that the anti-terror police are reserved for more ambitious Moslems who plan to earn the highest scores.
If that’s true then this country is in a friggin’ bad state.
