A THUG from South Norwood has been jailed for life for his part in a gang that burgled and assaulted an 80-year-old woman with a metal bar.
Darren Lewis, 35, of Napier Road, will serve a minimum of seven-and-a-half years for his role in burgling the elderly lady and her husband in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, last July 31.
He and Clinton Jackson, 25, of Cobden Road, South Norwood; Jermaine Kellman, 29, of Wyndford Street, Wandsworth, and Marvin Sempler, 30, of Sevenoaks Road, Lewisham, broke into the couple’s home in Westly Wood at 2am.
They walked into her bedroom while sleeping, placed a hand over her mouth, struck her face with an iron bar and demanded to know where her money was kept and to reveal her PIN numbers.
They made off with a small amount of cash and drove to Penge in South London, where they attempted to withdraw funds using the bank cards although they were unsuccessful.
