In response to 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand up during the national anthem on the weekend at the Green Bay game, Trump said that Kaepernick “should try to find country that works better for him.”
“I have followed it and I think it’s personally not a good thing. I think it’s a terrible thing, and you know, maybe he should find a country that works better for him, let him try, it’s not gonna happen,” Trump told The Dori Monson Show on Monday, according to Buzzfeed.
The star quarterback remained seated during the anthem to protest racism and inequality in the United States, he told NFL Media after the game. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color,” Kaepernick said. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
And, naturally, Trump’s response was very in-line with the ideals of the good ol’ alt-right: Don’t like America’s deep, systemic flaws? Get out, then!
What are those “deep systematic flaws”?
That Black people can’t attack cops with impunity?
