A man has been sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for slamming his car into another car and killing a woman.

Johnson County District Court Judge Brenda Cameron sentenced Roy Lee Maney to 188 months on Wednesday.

Maney pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in the death of 30-year-old Tiffany Mogenson.

Maney told the judge said he acted foolishly. He apologized to Mogenson’s grieving family members for his actions.

“I’m ashamed of myself that (my actions) led to Tiffany passing away,” he said. “Please forgive me.”

Johnson County District Court Judge Brenda Cameron sentenced Roy Lee Maney to just 15 years.

Maney was arrested after a crash in October 2013 that killed the Prairie Village woman. Police say Maney’s car was going 90 mph at the time of the crash. He had alcohol in his system, but it was below the legal limit.

The wreck happened in October 2013 at a red light at West 75th Street and Roe Avenue in Prairie Village.

Maney also struck a second car, injuring that driver. The aggravated battery charge involving that innocent bystander was dismissed as part of the plea deal.

Maney was originally charged with first-degree murder. His charge was reduced because of a plea deal.

Mogenson’s family was very unhappy about that plea agreement. They wanted a jury to determine the sentence, but prosecutors say they did the best they could.

Tiffany Mogenson’s widower, Mike, said Maney was a gutless coward. During the sentencing on Wednesday, family members talked about the wonderful life that Tiffany Mogenson lived. They shed tears and vented their anger.
