Hoax Crime: Has There Ever Been a Real “Racist Receipt Message”?

Another false alarm.

There is no evil wolf in this field.

San Antonio Express:

An Odessa waiter’s viral Facebook post about a patron leaving a racist message instead of a tip was allegedly fabricated, according to the Odessa American.

Khalil Cavil was waiting tables on July 14 at Saltgrass Steak House in Odessa, when he discovered the patrons left a note on the receipt, according to a previous Reporter-Telegram article. According to Cavil’s Facebook post his name “Khalil” was circled on the receipt with”We don’t Tip Terrorist” written across the top.

In response to the incident, Saltgrass Steak House COO Terry Turney released the following statement:

“After further investigation, we have learned that our employee fabricated the entire story. The customer has been contacted and invited back to our restaurant to dine on us. Racism of any form is intolerable, and we will always act swiftly should it occur in any of our establishments. Falsely accusing someone of racism is equaling disturbing.”

I don’t know if you’re allowed to claim that faking racism is as bad as actual racism. I know that faking rape is definitely not considered bad, while fake rape (“I was too drunk to remember”) is the most evil thing of all.

But seriously though.

When I saw this waiter’s picture, I thought maybe this was the first real hate receipt.

No I’m just joking.

That isn’t really the waiter, guys.

The racist receipt message phenomenon is always fake. Every one of these stories. We’ve had about 87 in the last year, and they’ve all turned out to be fake. why does a company not Google this before just believing that there are racists everywhere writing hate messages on receipts?

Virtually every hate crime that is actually a “crime” is fake. But this is a “hate crime” that isn’t criminal but for some reason is considered worth reporting by the media. So it is the easiest thing to fake, because there are no real consequences if you get caught.

This wolf crying thing gets covered up, with the retraction of the reported racist hate incident getting 1% of the media mentions, but more and more people are waking up to the hoax crime phenomenon.
