“Sit mah azz on dat bitch’s face” was a traditional method of execution in Africa. We surely shouldn’t be surprised to find it now in Chicago.
A 23-year-old woman was ordered held in lieu of $2 million bail today after being accused of smothering another woman to death after the two fought over money and shoes, prosecutors said.
Andrea Brown, who is listed in a police report as living at the Howard Brown Health Center at 4025 N. Sheridan Road, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Tamica Riley, 37.
According to prosecutors the women were arguing on Sept. 14 in a hallway in the 800 block of South California Avenue over money Riley may have owed Brown, according to prosecutors.
As the argument escalated, Brown allegedly took Riley’s shoes and told Riley that she would not return them until the money was repaid, prosecutors said.
The argument became physical when Brown knocked Riley to the floor and jumped on her, prosecutors said. With Riley on the floor, Brown jumped on the victim, straddling her and putting her arm over Riley’s neck. Brown began pressing down, leaving the victim struggling to breathe, prosecutors said.
Brown then sat on Riley’s face, preventing her from breathing, prosecutors said. Prosecutors said Brown weighed twice what Riley weighed. According to police reports Brown weighs 235 pounds.
Witnesses responding to Brown smothering Riley yelled for her to stop and Brown jumped off Riley and fled the scene, leaving Riley in the stairway of the building, according to prosecutors. Brown was arrested on a sidewalk nearby at 3100 W. Polk St.
Riley was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County medical examiner’s office determined that Riley died of asphyxiation in a homicide. Police earlier said the woman was battered.
