Greek authorities say at least two people have drowned and another 30 are missing after two boats crammed with immigrants trying to illegally enter the country sank in the eastern Aegean Sea.
A coast guard said in a statement the vessels foundered off the island of Samos near the Turkish coast before dawn Monday. It said 36 people were rescued from the sea.
A cruise ship, coast guard vessels, fishing boats and two search and rescue helicopters are combing the area for more survivors. The nationalities of the migrants are unknown.
I cannot bring myself to mourn, but surely it is sad when anyone dies. The problem is that we have told them that if they can make it across the sea, they are allowed in. If they knew they would be rejected at the border and sent back, none of them would even try to come.
This creates the maddening situation, where the liberal authorities are telling us it is wrong to let them drown, when in fact it is their policies of allowing them entry which cause them to drown in the first place. Their “final solution” to the drowning African problem is no doubt going to be to simply bring the entire population of Africa to Athens on air planes.
