Imagine if a country other than Israel passed this law.
Seriously, sit there for a moment and imagine what would happen.
AP:
Israel’s parliament passed a contentious law on Thursday that would permit the force-feeding of inmates on hunger strike, eliciting harsh criticism over the practice.
The law allows a judge to sanction the force-feeding or administration of medical treatment if there is a threat to the inmate’s life, even if the prisoner refuses. It passed with a 46-40 vote in favor — a slender margin in the 120-seat Knesset. The remaining lawmakers were absent from the early morning vote.
While the law applies to all prisoners held in Israeli jails, Palestinian prisoners have used hunger strikes as a tool to draw attention to their detention without trial or charges. Scores of Palestinian inmates have held rounds of hunger strikes over recent years and, with many prisoners hospitalized, their failing health has caused tensions to flare among Palestinians.
Israel fears that a hunger striking prisoner’s death could trigger unrest. Israel in the past has acceded to hunger-striking prisoners’ demands and at times has released prisoners.
Jewish privilege means doing whatever the hell you want to whoever the hell you want to do it to.
But even some Jews are calling out other Jews on this (no doubt out of concern for the public image).
The opposition party Joint List on Thursday condemned the passage of the so-called “hunger strike law” allowing the authorities to force-feed security prisoners who refuse to eat as an act of political protest.
“The Knesset approved a law that legalizes torturing of Palestinian prisoners,” the Joint List said in response to the legislation. “The goal of the law is to defang their legitimate struggle under the guise of ‘preventing the damage caused by hunger strikes’. This is a law that permits invasive and cruel intervention in the body of another human.”
The party lamented the fact that the government was ignoring the position of the Israel Medical Association, which has explicitly stated that a hunger-striking patient’s physical resistance to force-feeding carries with it risks to his or her health.
Of course, no non-Jew can call them out.
That would be pure hatred.
