It Appears That 100% of Vaping Deaths are Related to Illicit Marijuana Vaping

Vape on, King.

I called this.

Vox News:

For weeks, it’s been clear THC vape products are playing a major role in the outbreak of vaping-related illness that has sickened more than 1,600 people across the country.

But what hasn’t been clear is what substances the people who died from this sickness had been using. Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention came out with that data — and it once again implicates THC vape products.

Among 19 patients who’ve died — a subset of the 34 total deaths for whom CDC had substance use data — 84 percent reported using any THC-containing products. Sixty-three percent reported exclusive THC product use. A smaller number — 16 percent — said they’d used only nicotine products, but the CDC also warned that there might be under-reporting of cannabis use since non-medical marijuana is still illegal in so many states.

The agency isn’t tracking whether people were using legal or black market sources to vape, but the data we have from states suggests it’s overwhelmingly illicit, pre-filled THC vape cartridges making people sick.

Last Tuesday, a new study from Utah showed 92 percent of patients interviewed reported vaping THC — and mostly from pre-filled cartridges — before falling ill. The vape products, the CDC said, “were acquired from informal sources such as friends or illicit in-person and online dealers.” Dank Vapes, a popular counterfeit manufacturer, was the most commonly used brand.

I still think there are probably issues with vaping as it is now, because they are not regulating these juices and no one knows what’s in them. And then the devices themselves are often plastic (the small Juul style ones), which is being heated up and inhaled.

But the freakout was pointless.

I ended up stopping in the middle of this freakout, as I’d been thinking about it for a while. That was after vaping for 3 years, having smoked for more than 15 years before that.

Since quitting, I’ve more or less lost the will to live, I’ve gotten fat, I sleep less, the quality of my work has gone down, etc.

This is approaching two months, and there has been no point at which I have not loathed this. I don’t feel that my energy levels have gone up – in fact, they’ve gone down, probably due to less sleep – and I do not feel that my health has improved any. The only thing that I can say is that I’ve gotten stronger, but that appears to be obviously due to getting fat.

Probably, I was not the kind of person designed to not smoke. It is my personality. And having thought about it, vaping is a much better option than smoking, and might in fact be the miracle that they promised us (other than the fact that nicotine in any form can increase heart problems).

I was possibly vaping too much. Probably. And if I do start again, I will want to get the healthiest possible options. That’s kind of what I’ve been waiting for – I thought that after this hysteria, they would come out with one that is like, solid Pyrex and steel, with oils made with only natural flavors, so you can pay a premium for healthy thoughts.

But that has not yet arrived.

I’m also considering the gum, which Tucker Carlson uses and which doesn’t appear to cause problems but which is expensive, or the Swedish paper gum things.

Also considering snuff.

Though I think everyone would just think you’re doing drugs. Because that’s what it looks like.

On the internet, kits which are obviously sold for the purposes of cocaine use are sold as “snuff kits.”

It also seems to me that you could also probably eat the vape juice. Like, just squirt it directly in your mouth, and let it dissolve under your tongue.

Anyway, I am going to let it go I guess for another month or so, but honestly at this point, I would say that this is no way to live. I might do it just for the sake of my health if I didn’t feel it was affecting my work, but it is affecting my work, and every regular reader knows it, and to work is my first duty before God.

And when it comes to this question of “which great writer didn’t smoke?”, we are left with no answers.

In fact, we are left with the fact that smoking was part of the fundamental character of any of the great writers we have photographs of.

So really, I should consider myself lucky that I have the option of vaping instead of smoking.

But yeah – I’ve committed, I haven’t had a single puff since I said I’d stop, so at this point I might as well ride it out a few months longer to see if things get better.
