The man accused of robbing and killing an off-duty Metro Police officer has accepted a plea deal.
Prentice Marshall pleaded guilty Monday afternoon to the robbery and murder of Officer Trevor Nettleton.
Marshall is expected to be sentenced to life without parole. He’s already spent six years behind bars.
Police said 24-year-old Marshall, who was 18 at the time, shot and killed Nettleton at his home on Nov. 19, 2009. Nettleton was in his garage working on his car at the time of the shooting.
Marshall along with Saul Williams, Adrian Pena and Quadrae Scott were all charged with first-degree murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
Emmitt Ferguson and Michael Ferguson were charged with accessory to the crime.
During Monday’s motion hearing, Marshall, who was originally facing the death penalty, asked the judge to dismiss his two attorneys.
“These attorneys are very adequate, but their performance has not correlated to their reputation,” Marshall said.
