If we summarise your journey, from Bosnia to Iraq, it’s that of a man posted on the fracture line. Between the Orient and the West?

BHL: “No. Between Islam and Islam. A line that separates democrats and fanatics in Islam. I’m not one of those who thinks that Islam is our enemy. I’m also not one of those refutes any link between Islam and Islamism. But I believe in Islam of the Enlightenment. The fracture is between Massoud and El-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. To use your word, I am not for the “Orient”. But I certainly feel closer to an Afghan or a democratic Kurd than to a French person who votes for the Front National.”
