The actor Jon Voight is really angry that there are Hollywood actors like Penelope Cruz and others criticizing Israel while supporting the Palestinian people. Apparently Voight is upset that anyone would dare question why Israel would kill and wound thousands of women and children. Voight expressed these thoughts in an opinion editorial on the Gaza-Israel situation where he provides the reader a selective view of history outlining the formation of Israel.
Voight makes no mention of the countless cases of Jewish terrorism conducted by the Irgun against Palestinians throughout the 1930s and 1940s, which helped bring Israel into existence. Nor does he make any mention of the 1946 King David Hotel bombing, in which the Irgun killed a large group of people including British Nationals to further the Zionist agenda. This is despite the fact that the British, through the Balfour Declaration, were actively helping the Zionist Jews achieve their goal of a Jewish state in Palestine. Of course none of this history would fit into Voight’s ridiculously biased narrative. In his mind, only Palestinians and not Jews are capable of committing terrorism.
The fact of the matter is that a large group of Jews, through the Zionist program, came to Palestine and began stirring up trouble with the Palestinians who were peacefully living there. This is why much of the Arab world correctly views the Jews as occupiers, especially considering that the Jews used violence and terrorism against the existing populations to establish their so-called Jewish state.
As if his selective view of history wasn’t bad enough, he actually goes on to claim that Israel is full of poor suffering Jews. The Jews just killed and maimed thousands of Palestinian women and children and he wants to cry about Jewish suffering because three Jews were kidnapped and murdered? How can he even compare the two?
He also claims that the Jews are victims because of the kidnapping incident. The Israeli government couldn’t even provide evidence to determine who was responsible for these crimes, but they just declared with no proof that Hamas must be guilty and began indiscriminately bombing the Gaza Strip which has resulted in the carnage we have seen over the past several weeks.
Does collectively punishing a group of people in this fashion represent justice? I think not, but in Voight’s insane mind it somehow does.
Voight may have just written this disgusting piece to make his Jewish bosses in the Hollywood film studios happy, but even that is difficult to say. I’m honestly not sure what he has to gain by writing such ridiculous lies at this point in his life. He’s in his 70s and is probably a millionaire many times over. It is possible that as an old man he really believes these things, having been subjected to pro-Israel propaganda for many years. Either way, he is dead wrong with all of his points.
Feel free to read Voight’s article below and draw your own conclusions. There’s so many distortions and fabrications with what he wrote that it would take a much more lengthy article to cover all of them. Some of his more outrageous statements are in bold text.
My name is Jon Voight and I am more than angry, I am heartsick that people like Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem could incite anti-Semitism all over the world and are oblivious to the damage they have caused.
They are obviously ignorant of the whole story of Israel’s birth, when in 1948 the Jewish people were offered by the UN a portion of the land originally set aside for them in 1921, and the Arab Palestinians were offered the other half. The Arabs rejected the offer, and the Jews accepted, only to be attacked by five surrounding Arab countries committed to driving them into the sea. But the Israelis won. The Arabs tried it again in 1967, and again in 1973, launching a sneak attack on the holiest Jewish holiday. Each time the Jews prevailed but not without great loss of life. And when Israel was not fighting a major war, it was defending itself against terrorist campaigns.
And yet Israel has always labored for a peaceful relation with its Arab neighbors. It voluntarily returned the Sinai Peninsula to Egypt in return for peace, and gave the Palestinians all of Gaza as a peace gesture. What was the response? The Palestinians elected Hamas, a terrorist organization, and they immediately began firing thousands of rockets into Israel.
After years of trying to make peace, the wars they had to fight, being attacked by their enemies, and still being attacked, and finally after years of running into bomb shelters and having hundreds of civilians killed by suicide bombers, civilians being killed in their sleep, stabbed to pieces, finding enough is enough and finally retaliating, instead of my peers sticking up for the only democratic country in that region, they go and take out poison letters against them.
You have forgotten how this war started. Did Hamas not kidnap and kill three young teenagers for the sake of killing, and celebrated after the killing? What a travesty of justice.
I am asking all my peers who signed that poison letter against Israel to examine their motives. Can you take back the fire of anti-Semitism that is raging all over the world now?
You have been able to become famous and have all your monetary gains because you are in a democratic country: America. Do you think you would have been able to accomplish this in Iran, Syria, Lebanon, et cetera? You had a great responsibility to use your celebrity for good. Instead, you have defamed the only democratic country of goodwill in the Middle East: Israel.
You should hang your heads in shame. You should all come forth with deep regrets for what you did, and ask forgiveness from the suffering people in Israel.
