Most racists get worn out after only a few murders. But not this guy. He was like a machine, and literally managed to murder 300,000 people by doing bookkeeping.
A court in Lüneburg sentenced a former SS officer known as the Bookkeeper of Auschwitz to four years in jail on Wednesday morning, in what is expected to be one of the last German trials of its kind.
Oskar Gröning was guilty of complicity in the deaths of 300,000 people, judges said as they handed him a sentence longer than the three-and-a-half years prosecutors had requested.
As the proceedings wrapped up on Tuesday with the defence calling for an acquittal, the 94-year-old Gröning had seized a last opportunity to address the judges and said he was “very sorry” for his time stationed at the Nazi death camp.
“No one should have taken part in Auschwitz,” he said.
“I know that. I sincerely regret not having lived up to this realisation earlier and more consistently. I am very sorry,” he said, his voice wavering.
Gröning was accused of 300,000 counts of accessory to murder in the cases of deported Hungarian Jews sent to the gas chambers between May and July 1944.
What are the Jews going to do when there are no more old men to hunt down and torture?
Well, they have already said that a child of a Holocaust survivor can also be a Holocaust survivor by proxy, so maybe the children of Nazis can be hunted down and charged with murdering hundreds of thousands of people and turning them into lampshades?
