Bretty good.
Bretty good.

Jobbik constantly jumps all over the place.

First they’re neo-Nazis, then they say they’re really Turks and love Moslems, then they say they want lists of all Jews, then they attack Spencerfest as racist – then they do this.

The Hungarian Guard (Magyar Gárda), a banned far-right paramilitary group, will be given state funding and other official support if Jobbik gains power, a vice president of the radical nationalist party said in a post on Facebook on Tuesday.

In a lengthy analysis about Jobbik’s “journey from the political quarantine to becoming a potential governing party” János Volner proudly acknowledged the part he played in the Guard’s switch from holding “traditionalist” events to “decisively counteracting gypsy crime,” having suggested the new path to the group’s leaders.

Volner said he believes that Jobbik’s rise – it is currently the third-largest party in government, and has come near the top in recent party-preference surveys – was greatly facilitated by the “unparalleled outspokenness” of the guard. He said that because of this he will make every possible effort to revive the guard and provide state support for their development if Jobbik is brought into government.

Volner, who is a former police officer, also said that the authorities had tried to infiltrate a key chapter of the group, which has changed names and downplayed its paramilitary activities since being officially banned in 2009.
