KulturKampf: Plato’s Republic VI & VII

The Right Stuff
April 14, 2016

In this episode of KulturKampf Titus, Aristocles, and I dive into issue of the Philosopher and his nature. Analogies abound as we find the true cause of the mob’s disdain for ‘useless’ philosophers and their fear of those vicious ones besmirching the noble art’s good name. Does the mob control the Sophists or do the Sophists control the mob? Did the chicken cross the road or did the road pass under the chicken? We discuss the paradox of Change as it relates to knowledge and end with Plato’s cave allegory ready to be introduced in the next book. Stick around goys and enjoy this episode on Book VI of Plato’s Republic!

Sorry, Goys, no time-hacks this week. My desk is a giant pit of madness and I can’t find my hard copy notes with the time marks on them. I don’t have time unfortunately to go back through and listen to the whole podcast to mark them off again. I’m reading about 200 pages on top of the podcast’s reading for school. Instead I formatted my notes on this pastebin for you to follow along: http://pastebin.com/vEShkg6k

Caves, shadows, blinding light. What is knowledge and how do we access it? Is it merely an endpoint we can know or does it require some learned skills and a journey towards first principles? How do Philosopher Kings come to gain these skills if they’re required? Are madmen really those who’ve access to these forms? All these questions and more will be discussed in this episode of KulturKampf as we ascend towards the light in search of Knowledge and Absolute Truth.
