Though the Holocaust ended in 2011, it is still being given top news billing in outlets across the Western world. It was simply such an incredible event, that even six years on, it is appropriate for the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board to write a feature story about an old man who was vaguely related to the situation.
Their latest piece is about one of the prosecutors, who tried the Nazi officials who were responsible for the systematic killing of 6 million Jews.
I was disappointed to see that they only used the word “systematic” once in the article.
The fact that the Holocaust was systematic is one of the most important aspects of it.
However, I was thankful that they used the word “evil” twice (though that’s still a pretty low count).
Because even in a totally secularized world, that doesn’t actually believe in evil, we have to remember that one thing was actually evil even though evil doesn’t really exist: and that is the Holocaust.
Even now, six years later, we must never forget how evil it was.
