The man convicted of killing off-duty Akron police officer Justin Winebrenner and shooting four others was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without parole eligibility plus an extra 65 years.

A Summit County jury opted for recommending prison over execution.

Ten family members and friends spoke on Winebrenner’s behalf. Ivery apologized to the family before being sentenced.
