Police have arrested an New Britain man for a homicide that happened in New Britain in January.
An arrest warrant was put out for Darren Davis, 48, on Saturday, March 8, and was taken into custody the same day.
“I’m just glad that someone did get caught because she was human just like me,” said Maria Flores of New Britain, a neighbor. “It’s just said. Real sad.”
On Jan. 27, 2014, New Britain police officers responded to 85 Spring Street, apartment 410, on a welfare check. Investigators found Veronica Skinzera, 49, unresponsive and suffering from stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Skinera’s cause of death was stab wounds. It was also ruled that her manner of death was homicide.
“That weekend, I saw this full of cops and stuff and heard someone got killed here,” Flores said.
Investigators found out that Skinzera had been living in her apartment in New Britain for one month before she died with Davis. The apartment was leased to Davis, according to police.
Skinzera and Davis were reported to have a loud relationship. According to police, their relationship had deteriorated further over the month before her death.
Through the investigation, Davis was identified as a suspect. When New Britain investigators obtained the arrest warrant for Davis, he was located the same day on Arch St. in New Britain and taken into custody.
“If you did it, you got to pay,” Flores said.
Davis was charged with Murder and is being held on a $1 million bond. He will be in court Monday.
The New Britain Police Department was assisted in this investigation by the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office, the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit, and the Connecticut State Police Forensic Lab.
