Two helicopters are down, at least two are dead and Russia is threatening to invade, but the crazed Maidan, with the moral (and presumably physical) support of NATO and the rest of the Western Jewish system are pushing forward.

Reuters:

Ukrainian forces troops launched a dawn raid to try to retake the rebel stronghold of Slovyansk on Friday, as pro-Russian rebels shot down two Ukrainian helicopters, killing two crew.

Describing the use of anti-aircraft missiles as proof of the presence of Russian special forces in the eastern town, Ukrainian officials said Slovyansk was “tightly surrounded” and called on separatist leaders to release hostages and surrender.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said in a statement that two Mi-24 helicopter gunships were shot down by shoulder-launched anti-aircraft missiles while on patrol overnight around Slovyansk, a city that rebels have turned into a heavily-fortified stronghold. Two airmen were killed and others wounded.

A third helicopter, an Mi-8 transport aircraft, was also hit and a serviceman wounded, the Defence Ministry said. The SBU security service said this helicopter was carrying medics.

The SBU said the downing of the helicopters showed that “trained, highly qualified foreign military specialists” were operating in the area “and not local civilians, as the Russian government says, armed only with guns taken from hunting stores.”

Russia denies involvement but has massed troops on the border and threatened to intervene to protect the Russian-speaking majority in eastern Ukraine from what it calls an illegitimate, Western-backed government in Kiev.

This is the deal.

RT:

The Slavyansk self-defense leader said that helicopters were firing on the city with missiles, but that there have been no reports of damage, Interfax stated.

Slavyansk self-defense forces told RIA Novosti that the Ukrainian military had attacked several positions.

“The attack is targeting a few checkpoints at the same time. A few armored vehicles and airborne combat vehicles arrived and airborne troops descended from the helicopters and attacked the checkpoints. Some forces were dropped off around the train station, where we didn’t have anyone,” RIA Novosti quoted the press secretary of the Slavyansk self-defense units as saying.

Early on Friday morning, a city siren – which is designed to warn local residents of a Ukrainian military attack – went off and shots were heard. A few minutes later, the siren sopped and everything calmed down, according to reports.

A few of the activists were injured during the attack, Interfax cited the city’s self-defense unit as saying.

A commander at one of the checkpoints told RIA Novosti that the Ukrainian army had taken control of one of the roadblocks on the outskirts of Slavyansk, as well as the city’s TV broadcasting center. The Ukrainian army was mounting artillery positions around the captured TV station in Slavyansk, a city administration spokesman said, as cited by RIA Novosti.

So far, it appears that the Maidan has accomplished nothing at all beyond a roadblock.

Roadblock
Roadblock

They have failed to secure any territory at all.

But at least their soldiers aren’t defecting like the last time. Or, at least we haven’t heard that yet.

Putin has declared that Maidan needs to back off.

NY Daily News:

Ukraine must remove troops from the nation’s southeast to resolve a crisis with pro-Russian militants who’ve seized buildings there, he declared Thursday.

The Russian president’s comments came in a call with German Chancellor Angela Merkel a day after Ukraine’s acting president conceded that the Kiev government was losing control in the east.

…but these people all apparently still think he’s joking when he says stuff like this.

"Don't push us cuz we're close to the edge, we're tying not to lose our heads - ha ha ha ha."
