CNN:
German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced on Monday that she would not seek re-election when her term expires in 2021.
Merkel, who has been Chancellor since 2005, made the announcement during a news conference today in Berlin.
“It is time today for me to start a new chapter,” Merkel told reporters in Berlin.
I’ll drink to that.
I don’t think she is going to make it to 2021.

This is just a breaking news bit right now, but I suspect very strongly it’s true.
She can’t win, why would she run again?
German Chancellor Angela Merkel has told leaders of her Christian Democrats (CDU) that she will not seek re-election as party chairwoman at a conference in early December, a senior party source said.
It should happen today, I would assume.
This would have been a controlled leak, to get the press ready to report on her speech. We’ll have updates here on this beautiful story.
It’s a day to remember.
And a good omen, in light of some recent weird omens.
I am going to go ahead and give Donald Trump credit for this. If he hadn’t been elected, and Hillary was over there every month telling the the German people how there’s nothing they can do and they deserve this, they would feel hopeless.
The whole country would have just given up and masturbated to death.
Donald Trump has given the entire world a reason to believe change is possible.
Remember that this was only about immigration.
That was what she did and that was what destroyed her – at least briefly before it destroyed the entire continent of Europe forever.
