The food stamps program has ballooned in size under the Obama Administration.
Now, the number of Americans receives food assistance from the federal government (101 million to be exact) represents about one third of the ENTIRE U.S. population. This means that the number of Americans receiving food assistance from Uncle Sam has surpassed the number of Americans working in the private sector.
Absolutely despicable.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the 101 million people receiving food assistance participate in at least one of the 15 food programs offered by the government, the largest being the food stamps program. Such programs cost the American taxpayers over $114 billion last year.
Have you ever heard of the saying, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day — Teach a man to fish, and he’ll eat for a lifetime?”
The federal government hasn’t. The USDA continues to spend billions each year creating government dependence with welfare programs like food stamps. There is clearly something wrong with our welfare system when the number of recipients outnumber those working in the private sector.
According to statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there were 97,180,000 fulltime private sector workers in 2012 — over 4 million less than the 101 million people receiving food assistance.
The population of America is 316.2 million. This means that about one in three Americans receive food aid from the government.
