A mother is fighting for her life after being stabbed in the neck at her home in front of her six-year-old child, who was also injured in the attack.
Officers were called to a home in Walthamstow, east London, just after 3pm yesterday, where they found the 24-year-old woman lying in a pool of blood, with injuries to her neck and arms.
Detectives said the attack was not random, but they have yet to find a clear motive.
The child was with her, and had also suffered an injury in the attack – although it was not confirmed whether it was a stab injury or not.
The mother is in a critical condition in hospital and is fighting for her life after losing a substantial amount of blood.
A hooded man covered in blood was seen running from a flat after the attack, witnesses said today.
The mother staggered from her top floor flat screaming for help after the attack, it was said.
A teenage boy today described how he and his sister saw a black man covered in blood and wearing a hoodie running from the flat.
He said: ‘We where halfway to the stairs when we heard screaming, we turned back to see what was happening, then we saw someone slamming the door then he came running out and down the stairs.
‘Then we saw a woman coming out with blood on her face and hands.
‘She was shouting ‘help, help’ and knocking on next door to her, then I think somebody called the ambulance.
‘I’m not sure, but I think she then collapsed.’
The boy’s mother, who also asked not to be named, added: ‘She was on the floor when I saw her, there was a lot of blood and I think seven or eight paramedics were working on her and they and they were here for a long time.”
The boy described the man he saw running away as a black man with cornrows in his hair.
He said: ‘He was wearing a black hoodie and pulled it half over his head, and he had twisted cornrows on the side of his head, and he was wearing blue jeans.
‘He was a black male but I can’t remember anything else.’
The mother said she did not know what the victim was called but knew her daughter’s name. She added: ‘I don’t know her name but she has a daughter who is six-years-old. I think she was there when it happened.
‘I don’t know her mum’s name though. But she is a friendly person and her daughter’s a lovely girl. I’ve never seen or heard anything like this happening around here before.
‘She lives with a black man, but I don’t know if it’s her partner or husband. But my son said it was definitely a different man he saw running away, not her partner.’
Her son added: ‘Everybody has seen him before (the victim’s partner) and it wasn’t him. He is nearly always wearing a cap, with a bandana on his head, this man didn’t.’
