Vicki Cook VonCannon was reported missing by her husband, but it was too late, a Negro had taken her.

An arrest has been made in connection with a 1989 murder case in Guilford County.

William Henry Parker, 58, was charged Monday with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Vicki Cook VonCannon, Guilford County deputies said. Parker was arrested at the Guilford County jail and is currently serving a life sentence after a 2012 conviction for being a violent habitual felon.

William Henry Parker was already in prison for other crimes when he was charged with her murder.

VonCannon was found dead on May 16, 1989, at High Point City Lake Park. Her husband had reported her missing several hours before she was found dead.

Parker was considered a suspect in the original investigation but was not arrested, deputies said Tuesday. The case was reopened in 2012, and interviews and advanced forensics led to new developments, deputies said.

Among Parker’s many convictions are manslaughter in 1983 and assault with a deadly weapon in 1976, 1990 and 2012, according to state corrections records. Parker is not eligible for parole.
