A father accused of killing his three-year-old son denied murder when he appeared at the Old Bailey today (Fri).
Mahad Ahmed, 42, allegedly battered Mohammed Ahmed to death at their home in Donnybrook Road, Streatham, south London, on March 11.
Ahmed denied killing his child in hospital later the same night and a post mortem gave the cause of death as severe traumatic injuries.
He appeared in court via videolink from Belmarsh prison in southeast London and entered a not guilty plea to a single charge of murder.
Mohammed had suffered an injury to the back of his head, broken ribs and a ruptured liver.
Ahmed, who came to the UK as a refugee from Somalia but is now a British citizen, was charged on 15 March.
The judge, Mr Justice Saunders, ordered him to stand trial on January 14 next year. The case is expected to last up to three weeks.
Ahmed was remanded in custody.
