“Mental health facility” sounds so gay.

A man who beat a pregnant woman and tried to rape her will be heading to a mental health facility instead of prison.

Anthony Smith in accused of attacking the woman near the LeBlond pool on Riverside Drive in June.

On Tuesday, a court found that Smith committed felony assault and attempted rape. Those charges would carry a maximum penalty of 16 years in prison.

But the court also found Tuesday that Smith is mentally ill. He will instead be committed to Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare Hospital.

The victim, who was nine months pregnant at the time of the attack, said she was walking her dog when Smith attacked her. The victim said Smith attempted to rape her and when she fought back, Smith hit her over and over in the face.

The victim was beaten so severely she had to be hospitalized.
