As Europeans become minorities in their own cities, the streets of Germany’s Frankfurt, like many others, have become battlegrounds for ethnic and cultural conflicts that have nothing to do with Europe. Over 4,000 Kurdish protesters marched in Frankfurt on Saturday to show their solidarity with Kurds and to protest against the militarization of Turkey in south-eastern regions.
Turkish security forces have engaged in a counter-insurgency operation in the country’s southeast since last July, when a fragile peace with the Kurdish separatist group the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) collapsed.
