According to an article published by the newspaper “To Vima”, police sources revealed to the columnist that they know the identities of the killers of Giorgos Fountoulis and Manolis Kapelonis, who were shot in cold blood on November 1st in front of the Golden Dawn offices in Iraklio. According to the paper, the murderers were two “Greeks” as well as an Albanian linked to the anarchist underworld, who have additionally been linked to robberies, attempted murders, and petty burglary. The police source goes on to state that Greek Counter-Terrorism police has been monitoring their phones for a long time, and refers to the existence of damning evidence found at the scene of the November 1st attack. The article goes on to speak of different evidence linked to certain the anarchist squats from which the killers allegedly operated out of.
In response to the column, an official communique completely denied the allegations printed in the article. In the statement they said: “The article by To Vima making claims about the criminals who murdered Golden Dawn members does not correspond to facts”. Of course, the press release does not specify what details of the supposed leak were not true. What are they denying? The connection to elements of the Leftist underworld? The nationalities of the murderers? Whether the police know who the perpetrators are? Or the entire publication? What exactly are facts they have uncovered that the article does not correspond to?
The truth is that someone is lying, and telling big ones. If the police lied, then it means the publication reflects the truth and indeed the police are on the trail of the murderers, delaying their arrest. If the police statement is not true, then they essentially know the truth and are virtually protecting the terrorists who murdered our brothers.
On the other hand, if “To Vima” is lying, then they are shameless yellow journalists seeking to sell a few more bloody newspapers exploiting the death of our two comrades. Will the prosecutor intervene if this is nothing more than an obscenity? Of course, this situation raises many questions and the curt response lacking any details by the police demand more clarifications if the newspaper is truly just making this up. One thing is for sure, it is unknown if the police are even still investigating the murders, what progress if the Counter-terrorism police are involved, or if they are all just dealing exclusively with the political repression of Golden Dawn.
The only thing we know for sure in this whole affair is that it has been three months after the murder of our brothers, the perpetrators freely roam the streets, and there has yet to be a single official announcement surrounding the progress of the investigation of this extreme act of terrorism.
