As Americans have learned all too often, open borders are deadly.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents confirmed Saturday night that the suspect in the murder of two California deputies is a twice-deported illegal immigrant.
The suspect, Luis Enrique Monroy-Bracamonte, now has an immigration detainer against him. It calls for him to be transferred to federal custody after this case has been decided so the federal government can pursue deportation, although that clearly hasn’t worked twice.
The suspect was arrested and deported in 1997 for illegal drug possession and again four years later for an undisclosed offense, reported the Sacramento Bee.
Monroy-Bracamonte gave authorities the fictitious identity of Marcelo Marquez, 34, of Salt Lake City. It was through fingerprints that authorities determined his true identity.
“The fingerprints were the basis for our request for an immigration detainer,” ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice told The Associated Press.
There is evidence that he used several different identities. One friend who knew him only as “Tiger” said she believed his name was Julian Beltran, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Photos on the “Beltran” Facebook page match those of the suspected killer. In one of the photos, a “Mexican Pride” tattoo is seen on his belly and a Sinaloa tattoo on his chest, indicating that he is from Culiacán, Sinaloa. In another photo he is wearing an evil-looking clown mask.
He has been charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder and carjacking. His wife, Janelle Marquez-Monroy, also faces charges of carjacking and attempted murder.
