More than two dozen people wound up in cuffs as protesters with the notorious anti-Israel group Within Our Lifetime descended on Manhattan Thursday morning, cops said.
A total of 25 people were taken into custody as demonstrators gathered on First Avenue near East 49th Street in Midtown East, authorities said.
The exact charges they face were not immediately known.
Video posted on Citizen shows a crowd displaying a large red banner with bold white lettering declaring “No war criminals in NYC!” — a reference to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Thursday visit to the Big Apple to address the United Nations.
“Netanyahu, you can’t hide! We charge you with genocide!” the group chanted as they assembled in the street just after 8 a.m.
“Stop bombing Gaza! Stop funding Israel! Stop arming Israel!” they shouted.
I can tell you the charges: impeding democracy and trying to undermine the values of who we are in a rules-based order.
Democracy is the most important thing in the universe and the source of everything good and meaningful. However, democracy is very fragile, like the thin glass of a lightbulb or the wings of an insect, and the only way democracy can be preserved is through a massive structure of judges, cops, and organized censors to prevent people from questioning its values.
Democracy simply cannot withstand being questioned. If you allow people to question it, it will crumble like a double chocolate chip cookie in the grubby hands of the Rizzler.
