One Black Male Charged Another Still at Large After Slaying of White Man

Police have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of a man a week ago on Polk Drive in Huntsville.

Nathaniel Keliche Smith, 23, is charged with murder in the Sept. 18 death of Joseph Thomas McBride. Smith was booked into the Madison County jail around 9:45 a.m. Friday.

McBride, 39, was shot to death around 5:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in the yard of a home on Polk Drive, according to police. Smith and a second man allegedly fled the scene in a blue four-door sedan that was later found abandoned in Madison County.

The second suspect remains at large. He is described as a black male between 18 and 22 years old, with a slender build and short hair. Anyone with information on the identity of this person is asked to contact Huntsville Police Department at 256-722-7100.
