Police in Melbourne, Australia, say they have arrested the driver and one other person Thursday after a white SUV deliberately plowed into a crowd of pedestrians, injuring at least 14 people.
Police said at a news conference that they believe it was “a deliberate act,” but that they do not know the motivation behind the attack.
Sky News Australia reported that driver was of Middle Eastern appearance.
After the white Suzuki SUV crashed into a bollard, a steel safety post meant to insure pedestrian safety, police wrestled down and cuffed the driver around 4:40 p.m. local time., Sky News said.
Sky News said a witness told radio station 3AW that she heard screams and saw “people flying everywhere.”
“We could hear this noise, as we looked left, we saw this white car, it just mowed everybody down,” she said.
Media reports say 13 people have been taken to hospitals, including a pre-school-aged child in serious condition with head injuries. Police say several of the injured were in critical condition.
Why were two arrested?
Was the other the passenger?
What was he doing? Sitting in the seat next to the driver and saying “GO MUHAMMED GOGOGOGO”?
This is not very efficient terrorism.
It would have been a much better allocation of labor to have both terrorists driving separate cars.
But wow these guys didn’t even kill anyone wow not very good terrorists Allah is smdh.
I do remember a time when this would have been a major story even though no one died. Around 2014ish.
But nowadays, it’s hardly worth reporting.
