Peruvian retailer Saga Falabella has withdrawn a catalog which contained almost exclusively blonde, blue-eyed models.
In Peru, it started with an ad the company placed on Facebook, depicting four gleeful young girls each clutching a blonde- or red-tressed doll and all looking very much like future contestants in the Miss Sweden beauty pageant, which is to say that they did not look anything like the vast majority of Peruvians, who are typically dark-skinned with dark hair and Amerindian features – either indigenous or mestizo.
The online outcry began at once, and it didn’t end with Facebook. It turned out that the retailer’s entire Christmas catalogue was packed with similar Scandinavian-esque models, each of whom looked as if he or she had just stepped off the plane from Copenhagen.
“Many people began to say that this resembled advertising of the Third Reich,” Wilfredo Ardito, a Peruvian anti-racism activist, told the Spanish-language BBC service. “Not even in Finland do you find advertising like this.”
The uproar soon exploded on the front pages of Peru’s newspapers and lit up its TV screens until the company was obliged to withdraw the catalogue from circulation and to issue a somewhat grudging and equivocal apology.
“We regret that the formulation of a part of our advertising has generated ill will for not having adequately represented the diversity that is indeed present in the other parts of the campaign,” Saga Falabella Peru said in a prepared statement.
According to Ardito and other observers, the issue is much broader and goes far deeper than one retailer’s Christmas catalogue.
Teun A. van Dijk, author of a book on racism in Latin America, told the BBC that almost all Latin American countries share an ideal of physical beauty that is simply unattainable for the vast majority of their people – “white, blond, and blue-eyed.
“You don’t need a lot of research for this,” he said. “Everybody in Latin America knows it.”
Everybody everywhere in the world except White countries knows it. Blonde hair and blue eyes are the international standard of beauty because they are objectively superior in that they are visible manifestations of a superior genetic make-up.
Period. There is no further complication of this issue.
Go to India, China, Africa, or as mentioned, Latin America, and show a picture of a beautiful Asian, a beautiful Negro, a beautiful Mestizo and an ugly blonde and ask them which one is the most attractive. 100% of the time, they will choose the ugly blonde.
The rest of the world is not nearly as confused as the White world. In fact, the rest of the world isn’t confused at all, just stupid. Our people are the only ones who are confused.
