Sort of a fun story.
At least something happening.
I haven’t heard of someone trying to rob a Rolex store in a Western country in decades.
They were trying to bring home the bacon.
A group of burglars — at least one of whom was seen wearing a pig mask and wielding a sledgehammer — broke into a Rolex store inside of a legendary Las Vegas casino early Saturday, police and witnesses said.
Scores of police officers decked out in tactical gear were seen in videos and photos posted to social media rushing to the Bellagio casino shortly after midnight, as reports of an active shooter streamed in over Twitter.
The high-end resort was on lockdown for roughly half an hour, ABC News reported.
But a Las Vegas police spokesman later dismissed the shooting report, instead confirming that there was an armed robbery inside the high-priced jewelry store, which is in the basement of the Bellagio. A preliminary investigation suggested that at least three robbers used a sledgehammer to break in, the spokesman added.
While police said no one was injured, witnesses recounted a chaotic scene inside the casino.
A 21-year-old California woman — who only identified herself as Kira — told the Daily News that she had just gotten out of the bathroom when she spotted a stocky man wearing all black standing guard outside the Rolex store.
To Kira’s shock, the man wielded a handgun — and wore a pink pig mask.
“He was screaming at people, pointing his gun, making sure that anyone who was close just got away,” Kira said over the phone, adding that the pig-headed man repeatedly shouted “Get out! Get out!”
Kira snapped a photo of the bizarre situation before bolting outside with a friend.
Once outside, Kira said she saw the same man being led away by police, but no longer sporting his swine disguise.
Cops told the Las Vegas Sun that the suspects tried to flee in their car, but it wouldn’t start when they found it in the parking lot. They tried to steal another car, and that also didn’t pan out. They then tried to get away on foot, police said.
Several people were detained, according to the Las Vegas Sun, but cops wouldn’t confirm if anyone was arrested.
Probably, someone was arrested.
This is definitely illegal.
In fact, apparently, just wearing a mask is illegal.
Some guy in a Joker mask (I think actually just facepaint) is getting charged with a felony in Virginia.
A 31-year-old man in Virginia was arrested and charged with wearing a mask in public Friday after he was spotted walking around dressed as the iconic comic book supervillain the Joker, police said.
Police in Winchester — located about 75 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. — said the Winchester Emergency Communications Center received “several calls” around 2 p.m. on Friday of a suspicious male wearing a black cape and carrying a sword walking around the city.
Jeremy Putman was charged with wearing a mask in public, a felony that could land him in jail for up to five years, the Winchester Police Department said in a statement.
Police said they had received several similar reports over the last week, but they do not believe there are additional suspects.
Although it may seem surprising that wearing a mask in public is a felony, police said it wants “to remind the community of the seriousness of the crime.”
According to Virginia Code 18.2-422, “It shall be unlawful for any person over 16 years of age, with the intent to conceal his identity, wear any mask, hood, or other device, whereby a substantial portion of the face is hidden or covered, so as to conceal the identity of the wearer, to be or appear in any public place, or upon any private property in this Commonwealth, without first having obtained from the owner or tenant thereof consent to do so in writing.”
I’m not sure if Virginia is the only state with this law or not.
But it seems like a pretty good law.
People shouldn’t go around in masks. It’s weird.
Although…. I wonder if it’s enforced on Halloween?
Also, what about Islamic females?
That one seems worse than the Joker.
Or the pig, for that matter.
