What is the argument for not teaching kids how to shoot guns at school?
The Russians have been doing this for years.
I guess an argument for Poles would be to not do it because Russia does it, but I can’t think of any other reason.
Weaponry classes have become mandatory in Polish schools in the wake of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
NATO scrambled jets in Poland Sunday to respond to a devastating Russian attack on Ukrainian energy and military facilities that led to major power cuts in Kyiv, pervading citizens in darkness ahead of the holiday season.
These amped-up attacks are in line with Russia’s threat to escalate its response following Ukraine’s use of US-supplied ATACMS missiles.
…
Poland is “the undisputed leader and innovator in helping Ukraine since the beginning of the war,” the Polish Ministry said.
Despite Poland being one of the safest countries in Europe, fearing a Russian threat as Moscow continues to escalate their war against Ukraine and their allies, the government has decided to equip students with firearms training to be prepared for unforeseen events.
In 2022, the Polish Ministry of Education and Science said, “The current challenges and threats require supplementing the goals of education and teaching content with issues related to state defense, acquiring shooting skills, and preparing students to cope with threats caused by hostilities.”
These Education Security classes were scheduled to start in the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years.
Students do not train with live ammunition but with ball guns, air guns, replicas of small arms, and virtual or shooting guns with lasers where the green light signals a successful hit. Laser arms dealer Krzysztof Papadis has developed this system and selling it to over 18,000 schools in Poland, he told DW.
This news article (actually a tabloid news article) is claiming that is related to Poland’s planned war with Russia.
Maybe that’s true, I have no idea, but regardless, there is no downside to teaching children to use firearms.
Why would you not do that?
It’s the same thing with teaching kids outdoors skills. It’s insane that children are taught useless algebra while not being taught how to build a wilderness survival shelter.
Which is more likely to save your life? Which skill would you rather your own kids have?
Russians do it better
