So, yesterday Stefan Molyneux did a video on George Soros which I found extremely distasteful. I’m going to watch it again, and will probably write something about it. If he continues down the road of “it’s not these evil Jews’ fault society is being destroyed, it’s your fault for allowing them to do it” path, I may stop posting his videos altogether.
But let’s put that aside for a second and watch this Scott Adams interview, because it is fantastic. This is just really, really good stuff, from beginning to end.
Interestingly, in this video, Stefan ties his “we’re all just rational individuals but something went wrong with education or whatever” claptrap with Adams, and he starts laughing (you can see that from 49:00, if you don’t want to watch the whole thing) and ends up analyzing him accurately in a way which makes Molyneux visibly uncomfortable.
It’s funny to watch Stefan over the last two years. It is like he is at war with himself, trying to rationalize libertarian dogma with new information he’s accepted. This isn’t really something that happens to very many people. Most people with a strong bias against certain realities will reject information which proves these realities. But he has accepted a lot of new information into his worldview, but still attempts to make it mesh with his libertarian biases. You end up with things like George Soros manipulating entire populations on a global scale using multi-billion dollar brainwashing campaigns being explained as the result of a poor education system. At the same time, he can explain race, feminism and certain other social issues with brilliant lucidity.
Adams assertion that everyone is insane is relevant here.
Regardless of the education system, human beings are still going to be the same creatures, and we are creatures who did not evolve to be rational beings, for the most part, which requires then a fixed, hierarchical, authoritarian social order to keep us from slipping into chaos. Basic nature itself declares this as a necessity.
For the record, I don’t believe that Stefan is doing this for any sort of devious reasons, but merely because he is human like all of us. I know people think he is Jewish because he made some statement about his mother being part Jewish, but he later said he might be a quarter Jewish but doesn’t actually know. I think he probably just said that thing about being part Jewish so Jews would like him. I think he’s a genuinely good guy and genuinely very intelligent, he’s just dealing with his own crap like we all are, just dealing with it publicly (which must of us aren’t doing).
They then get into a debate about Libertarianism, which Adams wins. This infinity capitalism argument was never perfect, though as technology develops and mass-profit in many ways becomes less and less relevant by the day in first world countries, it just becomes ridiculous. Adams is like me – forget about these primitive economic theories, it’s all about the robots.
I haven’t read Adams’ book yet, but I got it yesterday and will read it this week and write a review. I don’t usually write book reviews, because I very rarely read books anymore (other than stupid novels before I go to bed and books on tape at the gym). I think this is an issue for a lot of us these days – everything is on the internet.
But this is one I am making a point of.

By the way, just a sort of maybe related point here – YouTube has a fast-forward button. You used to have to download videos if you wanted to listen to them on high speed, and I often would not bother, but now you can do it right there.
You can set it to 1.25x, 1.5x or 2x.
2x can be a little bit much a lot of the time, but 1.5x you can use with almost anything (I wish they would add a 1.75x).
We have an audience that is mostly readers, and this might help some of you all get into watching/listening to videos a bit more. There’s a lot of content there that isn’t readable (this is especially annoying when people like Sargon of Akkad are obviously reading a script but don’t bother to post it), and the problem is mainly the time involved.
