Police have arrested a woman they say ran over a tourist on Miami Beach and left him to die – allegedly after the two met at a bar and went on a search for drugs.
Latravia Reed was booked into jail Wednesday afternoon and charged with several counts, including first-degree murder, grand theft and leaving the scene of a crash with death, according to a Miami Beach Police arrest report.
According to the arrest report, Reed told officers she met 38-year-old Steven Beech – who was visiting from California – at a bar on 21st Street early Saturday morning and the two left to go withdrawal money from several ATMs in the area from Beech’s credit and debit cards in an effort to buy drugs.
Surveillance cameras showed the two arriving at the Riviera Hotel on 20th Street with Reed driving a blue Hyundai Veloster. Beech stepped out of the car and the two had a conversation, according to the arrest report, before Reed attempted to flee after telling police she had the victim’s money and cards.
Beech jumped on the hood of the car as Reed drove away out of camera view with witnesses later saying they heard a loud sound and saw the vehicle drive away from the scene. Beech was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where he died Monday evening from his injuries.
