French President Emmanuel Macron committed a rather delicious faux pas on Wednesday that left his Australian audience scratching their heads.
Mr Macron has been in the country on a diplomatic trip, discussing weighty issues like climate change and defence.
The president’s immaculate English, however, failed him momentarily as he thanked PM Malcolm Turnbull.
“Thank you and your delicious wife for your warm welcome, the perfect organisation of this trip,” he said.
“Thanks to you and Lucy, thank you very much, Mr Prime Minister,” he added, before the two men shook hands.

Recordings of the exchange quickly confirmed that Mr Macron had referred to Mrs Lucy Hughes Turnbull, recipient of the order of Australia and chief of the Greater Sydney Commission, as “delicious”.
The media is going into full damage control mode saying this guy doesn’t understand English and blah blah blah.
Bullshit.
“Delicious” can only mean “very tasty.” And there is no context in any language where you can use a tasty-based idiom in reference to a woman and have it be non-sexual.
And this guy is fluent in English. Look up interviews with him on YouTube.
Macron is a moderately handsome 40-year-old man of power.
He is married to a woman who is 65.
He is a mentally ill pervert.
And he got off not simply on the fact that he was able to make a sexual comment about a 60-year-old woman, but that he was able to do it publicly.
That is the kind of deranged whackjob we are dealing with here.
We might as well be living in Gotham City.
