Betty June Binnicker, age 11, and Mary Emma Thames, age 8, were killed in Clarendon County, South Carolina, on March 23, 1944. George Junius Stinney Jr., 14, smashed in their skulls with a railroad spike.
Stinney was known as a local bully and had threatened to murder two other white girls the previous day. After killing Betty and Mary, he went home and confessed to the murders to his grandmother. His grandmother notified police.
He confessed again to three police officers, saying he killed them because he wanted to have sex with eleven year old Betty June Binnicker.
He was quickly convicted and sentenced to the electric chair. There was big controversy over whether a fourteen year old should be put to death. However, the controversy was over the sentence, not the conviction.
Stinney’s own family reportedly left the county out of embarrassment and shame. They never filed any appeals.
Over time, black power groups and radical white Marxists began claiming that Stinney was an innocent victim of “racism.”
The original evidence from the trial is all gone. Some of the original records are lost. None of the original witnesses are still alive. Yet, activist Judge Carmen Mullen has declared that the trial was unfair based on the race of the perpetrator. She unilaterally overturned the convicted of the killer.
Mullen held a two day hearing in which the sister of the perp, who was seven years old at the time, testified that her brother was innocent. There was no cross-examination. The sister never testified in the original trial.
The entire purpose of getting the conviction thrown out was to advance the political agenda of the far-left.
Judge Carmen Mullen cited the doctrine of American Cultural Marxism in her ruling. She said a fourteen year old black male would not have been given a fair shake by the white man in 1944. She admits that all the evidence in the case in gone. Most of the witnesses have been dead for decades. She admitted in her ruling that there was no way to re-litigate the trial.
Her ruling is based purely on her political ideology, and not the facts. She stated that it is “highly likely that the defendant was coerced into confessing to the crimes due to the power differential between his position as a 14-year-old black male apprehended by white, uniformed law enforcement in a small segregated mill town in South Carolina.” She is judging the case solely on the race of the perpetrator and not any factual evidence.
Judge Carmen Mullen failed to address the fact that Stinney’s own black grandmother turned him in! Mullen doesn’t address why a black grandmother would coerce her black grandson into making a false confession.
A movie, claiming that the perp was falsely convicted, is already in pre-production. It will star Danny Glover. It is being directed by Charles Burnett, who has a history of making racial agitation movies.
The far-left and various black media outlets celebrated the ruling, which they falsely called “an exoneration.” They mock the two little girls that were brutally murdered by this monster.
Make no mistake: George Stinney Jr was 100% guilty. The white Marxists, the media, and black power groups are perfectly comfortable pretending like he is innocent to advance their political agenda. They are completely comfortable spitting on the graves of two little dead girls. To advance the cause of the far-left, murderous thugs are converted into saints and innocent victims into criminals.
