Roy thinks we are not so much altruistic as keen to appear altruistic.
If we were altruistic we would help our own people first.
He gives an example of the liberal parents with a zoo in the living room that they like to call their ‘children.’
This is so that they can appear to be altruistic, like Angelina Jolie, showing off her adopted pets.
Don brings up Rachel Dolezal and explains that it was her parents rejection of her, in favour of adopted Blacks, that caused her to identify as Black instead of White.
How could they be altruistic, when they did that to their own child?
Altruism is giving up something of your own for someone else, but what they were doing is sacrificing another’s life, instead of their own.
They still got the pleasure of having kids, but at their own child’s expense.
