While Donald Trump is promising to cure AIDS and send a man to Mars, people are killing themselves and dying of drug overdoses at a rate higher than any time in modern history.
The rate of suicide in the US is rising, and has reached its highest point since the end of the second world war. According to a report from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the US suicide rate increased by 33 per cent between 1999 and 2017. This is calculated using age-adjusted rates that take into account age distributions across states and years.
In 1999, there were 10.5 suicides per 100,000 people, while in 2017 there were 14 per 100,000.
The CDC’s statistics show that, in recent years, there has been a marked increase in suicide among US people aged 15 to 24 and those aged 25 to 34, although the highest rates remain among those who are middle-aged. The report finds that for men and women aged 45-64, the suicide rate was highest among people who are white.
Yeah.
Highest among whites.
Specifically, white men – women almost never kill themselves (although they are more now because of that evil Netflix show).
But look how BuzzFeed reports this same story:
US suicide rates are the highest they’ve been since World War II, federal health officials said Thursday, with the rise particularly acute among indigenous women.
According to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the suicide rate was 33% higher in 2017 than in 1999.
The increase was seen in both men and women, and among all races and ethnicities.
Still, the uptick was not equally sharp for all groups — it was felt at a disproportionate rate by Native Americans and Alaska Natives, and particularly women in these communities.
As you can see in the above graph – of the same data that BuzzFeed is reporting on – white people are the ones whose suicide rate increased. So they are basically just lying to you – adding the female thing to already low population numbers in a sick twist, so they can lead with “oh my god oppressed drunken squaws, this is your fault.”
Because white people dying doesn’t fit into the narrative.
Why would people as privileged as whites want to end their own lives, what with all of their privilege?
The actual fact of reality is that white men in America are the most institutionally disenfranchised group in the entire developed world. And white people are the single group in all of human history who have been disenfranchised and oppressed in their own country – we are not terrorist Uighurs in China.
This is our country. Or it was.
And we’re dying on the streets of it.
While invading hordes of brown people drive around in sports cars, fucking our daughters.
