The Taiwanese animation company TOMO News has released a brilliant cartoon about the Donald Trump Taiwan phone call scandal.
I saw the media scandal over Trump taking the call from the Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, and was sort of just like “yeah whatever – who cares.”
And now, after watching this cartoon, I’m like “wow, Taiwanese definitely have a better sense of humor than the Chinese, sure do seem like pretty cool guys.”
Seriously, watch it. It’s fantastic.
But yeah, Taiwan?
Can’t really bring myself to care. I do think it is extremely hypocritical that the West, which allegedly prizes democracy, supports authoritarian China over democratic Taiwan. But pointing out that hypocrisy is as much as the situation is worth to me.
I always like the joke, when someone says they’re from Taiwan, of screaming “TAIWAN IS CHINA!”
If you ever meet someone from Taiwan, do that. Unless you have some reason you don’t want them to hate you bitterly forever. Their reaction will be priceless.
