The Process of Inquarting During Gold Refinement

When chemists want to refine gold they first add more silver to the mixture in a process called inquarting.

This is done so it is easier for the solvents can more easily come into contact with either silver or gold so as to dissolve it, leaving one or the other behind and keeping the other in solution to later remove with a significantly higher purity.
