The Sad Confusion of the Old Left

Governor Jerry Brown has been in the news a lot lately over the National Guard at the border thing.

Trump’s been praising/condemning him.

Every time I think of Jerry Brown, I think of that Dead Kennedys song “California Über Alles.”

It was written in the 70s, the first time Jerry Brown was governor of the Golden State.

Which actually could basically pass as right-wing right now.

And that is… pretty bizarre.

I am Governor Jerry Brown
My aura smiles and never frowns
Soon I will be president

Carter power will soon go ‘way
I will be Führer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will meditate in school
Your kids will meditate in school

California Über Alles
California Über Alles
Über Alles California
Über Alles California

Zen fascists will control you
Hundred percent natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face
Close your eyes, can’t happen here
Big Bro’ on white horse is near
The hippies won’t come back, you say
Mellow out or you will pay
Mellow out or you will pay

California Über Alles
California Über Alles
Über Alles California
Über Alles California

Now it is nineteen eighty-four
Knock-knock at your front door
It’s the suede denim secret police
They have come for your uncool niece

Come quietly to the camp
You’d look nice as a drawstring lamp
Don’t you worry, it’s only a shower
For your clothes, here’s a pretty flower

Die on organic poison gas
Serpent’s egg’s already hatched
You will croak, you little clown
When you mess with President Brown
When you mess with President Brown

California Über Alles
California Über Alles
Über Alles California
Über Alles California

This was an extreme (old) leftist anarchist punk band who in the 70s envisioned a form of hippy totalitarianism arising in California.

Which, oddly enough, is exactly what happened.

Punk rock is interesting, because there was almost a right-wing element to it, or what would now be considered a right-wing element, in that it was opposed to hippies and overtly militant. There was also a concept of freedom that doesn’t exist in boomer hippy land which is embodied in that song.

“Holiday in Cambodia” was also somewhat telling of that particular ideology that developed in the post-hippy era.

They were mocking the boomer hippy obsession with communism, which was rightly seen as extremely authoritarian and oppressive and yet loved by people whose idea of a good time was taking acid and having anonymous sex in a mud puddle.

So you’ve been to school for a year or two
And you know you’ve seen it all
In daddy’s car thinkin’ you’ll go far
Back east your type don’t crawl
Play ethnicky jazz to parade your snazz
On your five grand stereo
Braggin’ that you know how the niggers feel cold
And the slums got so much soul

It’s time to taste what you most fear
Right Guard will not help you here
Brace yourself, my dear
Brace yourself, my dear

It’s a holiday in Cambodia
It’s tough, kid, but it’s life
It’s a holiday in Cambodia
Don’t forget to pack a wife

You’re a star-belly sneech, you suck like a leech
You want everyone to act like you
Kiss ass while you bitch so you can get rich
But your boss gets richer off you
Well you’ll work harder with a gun in your back
For a bowl of rice a day
Slave for soldiers till you starve
Then your head is skewered on a stake

Now you can go where people are one
Now you can go where they get things done
What you need, my son
What you need, my son:

Is a holiday in Cambodia
Where people dress in black
A holiday in Cambodia
Where you’ll kiss ass or crack

Pol Pot
Pol Pot
Pol Pot
Pol Pot
Pol Pot
Pol Pot

Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot
Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot, Pol Pot

And it’s a holiday in Cambodia
Where you’ll do what you’re told
A holiday in Cambodia
Where the slums got so much soul
Pol Pot!

Pol Pot actually was probably a lot cooler than any single hippy.

At least that dude got shit done, ya know?

You can say what you want about how that turned out, but you can’t accuse the man of fucking around.

They say he committed a genocide, but evidence shows that a lot of jerk-offs were just trying to fuck up his shit so he took care of them, old school.

A lot of people don’t really know how to classify a guy who shows up and is like “yo, the days of fucking around just ended,” so they flip their shit and go around screeching about “muh genocide.”

But yeah, a leftist criticizing authoritarianism in the modern era is absolutely unheard of.

Dead Kennedy’s singer/songwriter Jello Biafra sort of ended up in a confused wasteland as the left switched from freedom-oriented left-libertarianism to state-mandated homosexuality.

Obviously, leftist ideas don’t actually work and they were never meant to work because they were invented by Jews as a way to tear down the old order and create a new one – the “freedom” that they sold was only about destroying everything. As soon as it was all destroyed, freedom no longer was on the list of priorities.

These old leftists are just confused.

You see it all the time now. They just look tired. I don’t think in the 60s or 70s anyone thought the ultimate end of their revolution would be injecting children with hormones and cutting their dicks off or establishing sharia law courts in western metropolises.

But that’s sort of how things go. If you don’t have solid, clear principles – that actually make sense and are based on something derived from the order of nature – you can end up in a situation that is totally different from the one you thought you were going into.

I personally blame the Jews.

Especially for all that punk rock shit, wow.
