Three people who were found guilty of ill-treating residents at Briarwood Rest Home in Lostock Hall have today (Friday October 2) been sentenced at Preston Crown Court.
The owners of the care home, Indranee Pumbien, 58, and her husband Meghadeven Pumbien, 62, both of Grosvenor Place, Preston and their employee Niphawan Berry, 41, of Christ Church Street, Preston were all convicted of being a carer involved in the ill treatment and wilful neglect of a person with lack of capacity contrary to the Mental Capacity Act 2005 following a six week trial which ended in August this year.
Indranee Pumbien was jailed for 18 months after she was found guilty of three offences. Meghadeven Pumbien was jailed for nine months after he was found guilty of one offence and Niphawan Berry was jailed for five months after she was also found guilty of one offence.
Police launched an investigation into Briarwood Rest Home on Todd Lane South, Lostock Hall in June 2014 after they were made aware of a complaint about the treatment of a resident at the home.
The convictions relate to the mistreatment of two residents, a 99 year old woman and an 80 year old man.
All three defendants were found guilty of failing to seek immediate medical treatment for a 99 year old female resident who had suffered scolds to her legs. Indranee Pumbien was also found to have force fed the two residents.
