What a fall from grace.
Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey is enduring a career low at the box office this weekend.
The ensemble crime-drama Billionaire Boys Club quietly opened Friday in eight theaters scattered in select states across the U.S. The indie film earned an abysmal $126 for the day and another $162 on Saturday for a two-day total of just $287 following its release on premium VOD last month, according to those with access to theater grosses.
For the full weekend, Billionaire Boys Club looks to have earned just $618 from a total of 11 theaters (the additional locations didn’t report any grosses on Friday and Saturday).
Put another way, that’s a per location average of roughly $56 for the weekend. If going by the average ticket price to date of $9.27, that means about six people showed up in each cinema on average. And it’s by far the worst showing Spacey’s career. Titles that debut first on VOD aren’t generally big draws at the box office, but Billionaire Boys Club is faring particularly poorly.
You gotta admit, he certainly had some balls to star in a film titled “Billionaire BOYS Club”.
I would stay away from anything to do with or just mentioning “boys” if I was outed as a big-time Hollywood pederast, but hey, that’s just me. What do I know.
Reminds me of a story.
A wise, 30 year old boomer once told me that he doesn’t respect actors.
I said, “what do you mean?”
He said, “like, I don’t respect what they do.”
That surprised me. I leaned in and focused my attention, “really? How come? I thought you were into mass culture and all that stuff.”
“Yea,” he started. “But there’s no real talent involved in acting, though.”
This angered me.
“WHAT ABOUT LEO!?” I thundered and hammered my hand on the table. “HE DESERVED THAT OSCAR!”
But my friend kept his cool.
“Acting isn’t really a skill… that is… wellllllll, it is a skill, but anyone can learn it. It’s like fishing…
…anyone can fish! You just gotta put in the time and go out a couple times on the lake, that’s all. No one talks about needing talent to be a fisher, do they? Same thing for actors. Anyone can learn to act. People act all the time. Leo’s no exception.”
In retrospect, he had a point I guess and Kevin Spacey proves it.
Personally, I always thought that he was a talented actor. But this is what happens when you don’t have the full might of Hollywood behind your back.
No one cares about your acting skills.
You’re just another dude playing dress-up. You’re no longer an actor, really. You become a joke. You’re reduced to making beer money, catering to people who watch indy movies – a fate worse than hell.
So would anybody watch these smug pedos prancing around on the big screen if they didn’t have millions of dollars in advertising, promotion and support from a massive and powerful industry?
I think the Kevin Spacey story gives us our answer.
