Opening statements were held on Tuesday in the trial of a man accused of stabbing a mother and daughter to death. Prosecutors say Terri and Stacey Moulton were checking on a cat at a friend’s home last year when they interrupted a burglary. Investigators say Dante Taylor stabbed the two to death inside the Sodus home.
At the trial, the husband and father of Terri and Stacey Moulton testified. He went to the farmhouse to find the women because they had been gone for so long. He described at trial what he saw when he went into the house looking for his family. When he came out of the house, he told a witness, “They’re dead.” The witness testified Moulton yelled “call 911.”
State police investigators say they saw the Moulton women “lying on the floor in the dining room” and they “we’re obviously dead.”
Police say witnesses say Taylor’s car was parked in front of a garage at the house.
Taylor is also charged with arson accused of trying to burn the house down to cover up the murders. Based on a crime scene photo, it appears that whoever killed the Moultons tried to start a fire directly next to their bodies.
