Who knows. Maybe he will get a good deal and everything will just be fine and dandy.
But I’m not going to believe it until I see it.
President Trump said Tuesday he is “not happy” with the tentative deal congressional negotiators have worked out on border security, as they face a Friday deadline to avert a second government shutdown.
But while the president expressed his displeasure at what was agreed to by lawmakers on Monday night, he added that he does not believe there will be another shutdown in the end.
“Am I happy at first glance?” Trump said. “The answer is no. I’m not happy.”
A committee negotiating new border security measures tentatively agreed Monday night to dedicate $1.4 billion to Trump’s border wall, far less than his $5.7 billion goal. The emerging deal drops Democratic demands to seriously limit detentions of immigrants illegally in the U.S.
The agreement also calls for 55 miles of metal slats or other types of new fencing, as opposed to a concrete wall. The fencing would be built in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. The pact includes money for other border security measures, including advanced screening at border entry points and customs officers.
Yes, it’s not a wall.
It’s a fence.
Don’t call it a wall.
This $1.7 billion of fencing is less than he could have gotten before the shutdown.
The huge funding measure, which combines seven spending bills into one, would fund several federal agencies through Sept. 30.
Trump, speaking amid a Cabinet meeting at the White House, did not say whether he would sign the measure, only that he was unhappy with what was agreed to yet did not want to see another shutdown.
“I am extremely unhappy with what the Democrats have given us,” the president said, adding that his proposed border wall will get built and “we’re using methods other than this.”
If he’s going to use other methods, then he should announce the national emergency and start building now. Not this stupid thing where he just keeps leading us all on, suggesting that at some undecided date he may or may not do a national emergency and actually build the wall.
Or the fence.
Whatever.
If he can’t do this, he should just say “I can’t do this.”
That would be much better than just continuing to give everyone blue balls.
2020 is Coming
I have said it and will keep saying it: if Trump doesn’t start a real wall – not a shitty fence he calls a wall – he will not be able to beat a white male Democrat.
He might be able to beat Kamala whatever he does – I don’t know.
But if the Democrats decide they want to win, they can figure out a way to get Beto as the nominee. And Trump cannot beat Beto without a wall. No chance.
I don’t even know if the Democrats want to win this cycle. I think they might have broken Trump to the point where he won’t be able to do anything, so they don’t even care if he’s president.
In fact, they benefit a lot from him being president. It gives them the ability to stir up their base. They can also just continue to do whatever the hell they want – he does nothing to stop them.
The entire Democrat strategy is to replace the US population with brown people, who will be their forever voting base. If Trump can’t do anything about demographics, then their project marches on no matter who is in office.
It is also potentially easier to roll out a brutal police state when Trump is president. We saw what they did to Roger Stone. Trump apparently can’t do anything to stop this, so they roll it out under his nose and there is a lot less pushback than there would be under a Democrat.
I don’t know what’s going on.
