Anybody remember what happened with the last Ottoman empire? Hmmmm…
Erdogan’s plan of transforming Turkey into a new Ottoman empire seems to be progressing smoothly, as the new Sultan is eliminating everyone he doesn’t like.
Nothing like a good purge to get you going in the morning, right?
It’s still unclear what this means at the geopolitical level.
CNN:
Turkey’s government replaced 28 mayors, whom the Interior Ministry accuses of terrorist ties, with trustees, sparking demonstrations and international concern.
The mayors are the latest to find themselves targeted in President Recep Erdogan’s post-coup state of emergency, enacted in July.
According to the 10-day-old Decree Law No. 674, the government is allowed to replace mayors and city council members who “have been actively engaged in acts of terrorism and openly providing support to terrorism,” an Interior Ministry statement said.
How convenient. The law was just passed 10 days earlier. Things have a way of working themselves out, don’t they?
lol.
Erdogan himself was giving support to ISIS not three months ago, and now he claims to be cracking down on people who are linked to it. This is a transparent excuse to purge people he considers as hindrances in his rise to total power.
Four of the mayors are accused of having ties to the Fethullah Gulen Terrorist Organization, which Erdogan has claimed was behind the failed coup attempt, and 24 were allegedly linked to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency.
I don’t know why the Turks hate them so much. Maybe the Kurds are stockpiling Raid spray?
Oh, and also an excuse to attack Kurds. But that goes without saying for a Turk, as they will attack Kurds as a matter of course whatever else they might happen to be doing at the time.
Oh, and they’re reporting that people are angry at this.
The move sparked demonstrations in Hakkari Province, where security forces forbade the city’s co-mayors from entering the municipal building, drawing several protesters to the building, according to Hurriyet, a daily newspaper.
Yeah, well Hakkari province is mostly populated by Kurds, so you’d figure they’d be angry about this.
Anyway, one possibility here is that Erdogan made a deal with the Russians, agreeing to switch to their side and ditch the Americans/ISIS/Israel, if he can be made the leader of a new influential Ottoman caliphate, instead of ISIS. This would explain why he would suddenly have no problem dropping his support for ISIS; he would now be able to exert influence directly in the region, instead of through the ISIS proxy.
Who knows.
