UK: 40% of British People Feel They Don’t Have Enough Freedom of Speech

Shut. It. Down.
Shut. It. Down.

According to a new poll, more than a third of Britons actively censor themselves when discussing topics of religion and immigration, and forty percent think there is not enough free speech in the country.

Whenever we see polls of “British” people, we have to remember a significant portion of them are not actually “British” by any traditional definition. When it is a question that mostly Whites would answer yes to, and most or all non-Whites would answer no, it is generally safe to add at least 15% to whatever number they are giving you.

I would think that well over half of actual British people do not feel they have enough free speech.

The results were revealed in a poll by YouGov commissioned by the New Culture Forum, which will be launching its new report ‘Speakers Cornered: Twenty-first century Britain’s culture of silence’ at an event in central London this evening.

When asked whether people in Britain today were free to speak their minds as they should be, a massive 41 percent said that they were not. And of that group, 38 percent blamed fear of prosecution for peoples’ reticence to speak their mind. A further 12 percent thought that people were too free to speak their minds.

31 percent of people self-censor on religious topics or when talking about immigration. 27 percent do not feel free to speak freely about moral and ethical issues such as abortion, same-sex marriage and euthanasia. And a further 20 percent felt they could not speak freely about their party political preferences.

Meanwhile, 77 percent of those asked said they thought people should be able to make statements about religion in books, television and other media that might offend some believers. Just 12 percent thought they should not.

In 2013/14, there were 2,273 recorded hate crimes on the grounds of religion, according to Home Office statistics. The vast majority of hate crimes, which are defined as “any criminal offence which is perceived, by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a personal characteristic,” were recorded on the basis of race – 84 percent fell into this category, amounting to 37,484 recorded instances.

“Too free to speak their minds” could only be Moslems. Though the majority of modern liberals obviously do believe that people who disagree with them are presently too free to speak their minds, they live in a world of double-think where they could not actually admit that they wish to silence speech.

We saw this with the recent ddos attacks from Anonymous on this site, where they were shutting down the site for the sole purpose of silencing our speech, while at the same time saying their goal was free speech.

One thing that people who are against UKIP because they’re too soft should keep in mind is that if UKIP comes to power, at the very least they will stop this anti-speech campaign, which would free up so much. Right now, the speech laws are a massive barrier for any nationalist group, and loosening them up would allow so much more breathing room for the people.
